The words 'blackjack strategy' can be enough to make casual gamers run a mile (usually towards the nearest slot arcade!) - but in reality learning the basics isn't that hard, and can quickly boost your entertainment and potentially the number of winning hands. Check out the basics of blackjack strategy – then go a step further with casual card counting concepts…..

Basic blackjack strategy

The first concept to implement when you are new to blackjack (or you've been playing with zero strategy) – is the basic blackjack strategy moves. Find yourself a good strategy chart and print it off for reference, until you're slick enough to know it off by heart (show off!). Check the fundamental blackjack rules, below, for an example of strategic gaming…..

Move 1: If the house has a 7 card or higher, then click hit until your score is 17 or more
Move 2: If the house has a value of 6 or less – then hit until you hold 12+
Move 3: Double down wager if your first hand is 10 or 11 and the house holds 9 or below
Move 4: Split your combo if you hold 2 x aces or 2 x 8's.

Casual card blackjack counting

Blackjack card counting is extremely powerful when applied by professional level blackjack players; however making the systems work requires hardcore practice, a hot shot brain and a big bank roll and cool head! Thus – in essence hardcore blackjack strategies are not really designed for casual online gamers. However - the good news is that you can use the basic concepts in a watered-down style, typically known as casual blackjack card counting.

To start casually card counting – you simply need to take note of the dealt cards; specifically whether they're high (10s, jacks, queens, kings) or low cards (2 to 5). As a blackjack gamer, you'll want to look for an advantage, which is indicated by 6+ low:high cards on the table. Naturally – the dealer will have more power when this concept is flipped the other way round (when the pack is high poor).
However – knowing how to perform a basic blackjack count is all very fancy – but how can you actually use it to boost your gaming results? Well, the answer is pretty simple – because a quick count can be used to move beyond basic blackjack strategy, honing your moves for better results.
Blackjack scenario: Player holds a combo of 16, house has a 10 face up on the table.
Basic blackjack strategy move: Hit if your hand is 16 against a dealer 10.
Casual count move: if the advantage is with the gamer (in other words, 6+ low:high cards on the table) – then stand against the house. If there is no edge – hit.
With a little time and research, you can soon use card counting concepts to raise the stakes and make the dealer pay more often.
